This Is the Neighborhood with the Most Registered Immigrants in Spain
The immigrant population in this neighborhood is 87%
In the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona, there is one of the most surprising areas in the country in terms of population density. This small block, located near the City Hall and the Palace of the Generalitat, has become the most populated census section in all of Spain. 12,670 inhabitants, according to the latest census data from 2024.
An interesting aspect of this area is its ethnic diversity. Out of the 12,670 residents, 87% are foreigners. Most of them come from Asia, especially from Pakistan.
According to the breakdown, out of the 11,059 foreign people, 6,833 are Asian; 1,934, American; 1,536, African; 749 non-Spanish European, and 1,611 were born in Spain. This increase has accelerated even more between 2021 and 2024.

A key factor in this rapid increase has been the constant arrival of Asian immigrants, particularly Pakistanis, whose population has grown by about 1,000 new inhabitants each year. As a result, it has gone from 4,431 in 2021 to 6,611 in 2024.
There has also been a strong growth in the Moroccan community, which has increased from 502 to 1,038 people in the same period. Additionally, the Colombian and Peruvian communities have tripled, now reaching 481 and 271 residents, respectively. Meanwhile, the Spanish population has grown from 1,598 to 2,159 people in the last three years.
This phenomenon reflects an accelerated demographic transformation.
