Alicante Establishes Itself as a Gastronomic Epicenter
The city hosts the second semifinal of the Chef and Waiter of the Year Competition 2025-2026.
Alicante strengthens its position as a national culinary reference by becoming the venue for the second semifinal of the prestigious Chef and Waiter of the Year Competition 2025-2026, which will take place on November 13. This event, considered one of the most important in Spain's gastronomic calendar, is part of Alicante's activities as the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2025.
The Councilor for Commerce and Hospitality, Lidia López, emphasized that "Alicante, as the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy, had to host one of the semifinals of this competition, reaffirming our commitment to gastronomic excellence and promoting the city as a top-level tourist and culinary destination." Meanwhile, the Councilor for Tourism, Ana Poquet, highlighted that "each participant will show their best version, elevating the gastronomic experience to its highest level."
The competition is supported by renowned figures in the world of gastronomy, such as chef Martín Berasategui, honorary president of the jury, and Alicante chef Joaquín Baeza Rufete, winner of the competition in 2014. Baeza Rufete highlighted the event's relevance, noting that "90% of the winners have achieved a Michelin star shortly after their participation."
A showcase for talent and innovation
The 10th edition of the Chef of the Year Competition and the 6th of the Waiter of the Year Competition will bring together in Alicante the best emerging talents in the sector. Contestants must demonstrate their skills live, preparing complete menus and overcoming service tests that will challenge their skill and creativity.
The Alicante City Council, through its Departments of Commerce, Hospitality, and Tourism, promotes this initiative as part of its strategy to position the city on the international gastronomic map, fostering tourism and boosting the local economy. "This competition is an exceptional showcase to display the talent, innovation, and passion for gastronomy that defines Alicante," concluded López.
