Alcobendas's plan to build 700 rental homes

The Plenary of the Corporation has definitively approved the transfer of two municipal plots to the Community of Madrid

The Plenary of the Corporation has definitively approved the transfer of two municipal plots to the Community of Madrid for the construction of 700 rental homes at reduced prices, within the VIVE Young Solution Plan.

Before the debate on this point, the mayor of Alcobendas, Rocío García Alcántara, highlighted the relevance of this measure, describing it as a "historic step" for the city in its commitment to building affordable and high-quality rental housing.

The transferred plots are D2, located at Camilo José Cela Street, 28, in the North District, with an area of almost 12,000 square meters (129,167 square feet), and the EG7 remainder plot, located at Olímpica Avenue, 6, at the boundary of the Urbanizations District and the Center District, with about 20,000 square meters (215,278 square feet).

The agreement was supported by PP and Futuro Alcobendas, while PSOE and Vox abstained and Más Madrid Alcobendas voted against.

The transfer is the result of negotiations carried out by the current government team to include Alcobendas in the VIVE Young Solution Plan of the Community of Madrid, an initiative previously announced by the regional president Isabel Díaz Ayuso after an extraordinary Government Council held in the city. Alcobendas was the only municipality in the area that didn't have a promotion of this plan due to the lack of land transfer by the previous municipal government.

Both administrations have agreed on the location, the approximate number of homes, and the execution deadlines, with the aim of having them raffled before the end of 2027. These homes will have a rent 40% lower than the market price, and a 30% reduction in construction times is expected. The Housing Councilor, Jesús Montero, has pointed out that they will be "quality homes, in gated communities, with 24-hour surveillance, swimming pool, garage, terrace, green areas, and children's areas, prioritizing residents registered in Alcobendas and workers with more than three years of seniority."

New urban gardens ordinance

The new ordinance regulating the use of urban and family gardens in the city has been initially approved, with votes in favor from PP, Vox, and Futuro Alcobendas, while PSOE and Más Madrid Alcobendas abstained. This regulation seeks to promote values such as sustainability, environmental education, and healthy leisure, updating the 2012 ordinance to adapt it to current needs.

Among its objectives are promoting citizen participation in sustainable development, boosting environmental education and intergenerational relationships, as well as encouraging local production and healthy habits.

The regulation clearly establishes the rights and obligations of users and the City Council and incorporates a sanctioning regime. The procedure for allocating plots will be through public competition, with priority for retirees and unemployed individuals, for a period of three years, extendable by one more.

Motion on the Atocha Lawyers mural

The Plenary has given the green light to a motion presented by Más Madrid Alcobendas, supported by PSOE and Futuro Alcobendas, while PP and Vox abstained. The proposal seeks the rehabilitation of the mural in memory of the Atocha Lawyers, which according to the proposing group is in a state of deterioration.

The mural commemorates the attack perpetrated by far-right members against a labor lawyers' office on Atocha Street, 55, in Madrid, in which five people were killed and four were injured.

The motion requests the dignification of the victims by placing a plaque with the names of the deceased in the Atocha Lawyers square or next to the mural.
