‘More Than 19.7 In.’: They Warn of the 5 Areas in Spain Where the Most Snow Will Fall Today
Storm Jana brings a Sunday of heavy snowfall in some areas of the country, with accumulations that could exceed half a meter (1.64 feet) of snow.
The arrival of the storm Jana has brought rain, storms, wind, maritime storms, and snow to Spain. After a Saturday marked by rain, wind, and snow, this Sunday snow will be one of the main protagonists in some regions. Undoubtedly, temperatures have dropped significantly, allowing the snow level to decrease considerably.
The mountain systems of the northern and central peninsula will be the most affected. In some areas, snow accumulation could exceed 19.7 in. (50 centimeters) —according to ElTiempo.es—, making it difficult to drive on high mountain roads. Additionally, the wind will increase the feeling of cold, leaving a fully winter day.

The Largest Snow Accumulations Are Expected in the Pyrenees
The heaviest snowfalls will occur in the Pyrenees, especially in the eastern sector. In these areas, snow could exceed 19.7 in. (50 centimeters), with accumulations that could reach up to 27.2 in. (69 cm) in some points. The persistence of precipitation will contribute to a significant increase in thickness at high altitudes.
The Cantabrian Mountains will also record significant accumulations. In the highest areas of Asturias and northern Castilla y León, thicknesses will range between 19.7 and 27.6 in. (50 and 70 cm). Snow will fall intensely for much of the day, favored by the thermal drop and the arrival of new fronts.

The Central and Iberian Systems Will Also Receive a Good Amount of Snow
In the Central System, the snowfall will be less intense, but considerable accumulations are still expected. The most affected areas will be the mountains of Madrid and Segovia, where snow could reach between 4.7 and 5.9 in. (12 and 15 centimeters) at mid-altitudes. Conditions in these areas may make driving difficult in some points.
Meanwhile, the Iberian System will experience moderate snowfalls throughout the day. In these mountains, accumulations will range between 5.9 and 9.8 in. (15 and 25 cm), affecting different provinces. Snow will remain in these regions well into next week.
In the south, Sierra Nevada will not be left out of the storm. Although the snowfalls will not be as intense as in the north, it is expected that the highest altitudes will accumulate up to 14.2 in. (36 cm) of new snow. These precipitations will ensure good conditions at the ski resort, which will continue to add thickness to its slopes.

The snow level will continue to drop throughout the day. In some regions of the interior peninsula, it could be at 3,281 ft. (1000 meters), although accumulations in these areas will be minimal. Even so, some points of both plateaus could see a winter landscape at dawn.
On the other hand, temperatures will continue to drop throughout the day, with minimum values at the end of the day. In the west and central peninsula, the environment will be especially cold, with frosts in some mountainous areas. The Canary Islands will also experience a significant thermal drop.
At the end of the day, snow will continue to fall in the northern half and southeastern peninsula. In the Central System and the Cantabrian Mountains, accumulations will continue to increase, with snowfalls that could last until dawn. The winter storm will mark the beginning of the week with a completely white landscape in many Spanish mountains.
