The old peseta coin that pays for your driver's license: it's worth a fortune

This specimen of the old pesetas has quickly become a true treasure for collectors.

The price of collectible coins varies over the years. This has made the world of numismatics one of the most fascinating and followed by millions of people.

The first thing to be clear about is that not all old coins are valuable in the market. However, there are several that have become a true treasure for collectors. A good example is a very special 1 peseta coin.

This is the 1 Peseta Coin Worth Thousands

The most notable coin dates back to the Franco era, specifically from 1946. The origin of the piece, however, is 1944, when other materials began to be used to increase durability. Although its value was 1 peseta, it is now worth thousands of euros in the market.

In the early days of the dictatorship, representing Franco on coins was avoided, using representative symbols instead. However, in 1946, the sculptor Mariano Benlliure was tasked with creating a portrait of the dictator.

About 1,000 units of this series of coins were made. They bear the date 1946 and the stars 19-48, indicating the year of minting. Nevertheless, Franco didn't like them, and the engraving was modified in subsequent batches of 1947 and 1953.

The Value of This Very Special Coin

This very special detail has meant that, to this day, only about 150 units remain, as experts indicate. This has also caused its value to skyrocket. In 2004, a collector put one of them up for sale for 2,700 euros, although its current value could be even higher.

Some experts say that scarcity is one of the most important reasons why this coin has reached such a value. Today, it has become one of the most sought-after specimens among collectors.

Numismatics enthusiasts, however, don't see only an economic value in this coin. The history behind it must also be considered. All of this means that, if you have it, you could have a small fortune in your drawer.
