Neither Leonor nor Amalia: a European princess reveals she's bisexual
The young woman who is part of European royalty is taking an important step in her personal life and breaking barriers
Europe's royal families have been symbols of tradition and respect for centuries, with rules that have governed their actions and statements. However, the passage of time and new generations have begun to challenge these customs. Young people have become a driving force for transformation within these families.
Princess Märtha Louise of Norway and her daughter Maud Angelica Behn are figures very close to the Norwegian people. Their public and private lives have been full of moments that reflect the change in ideas and modernity within the monarchy.

The brave step of a European princess
On June 28, Maud Angelica Behn, daughter of Princess Märtha Louise, made her bisexuality public. She did so by participating in the LGBTIQ+ Pride parade in Oslo. At just 22 years old, the young woman broke with expectations, sharing on Instagram: "Happy pride from a bisexual person!"
In her post, she received very special support from her mother, who commented: "Love is love. I love you! Happy pride." Maud not only took part in the parade, but she was also accompanied by her mother and her stepfather, Durek Verrett.
The shaman, her mother's husband, has been open about his bisexuality. Meanwhile, in his message of support, he wrote: "Thank you for supporting me, baby." This family gesture highlights the strength of the unconditional love that exists in the Norwegian royal family.

A milestone for Norwegian royalty
Maud Angelica Behn's act marks an important milestone for the Norwegian monarchy; she is the first person in the line of succession to declare her sexual orientation. Although her mother, Princess Märtha Louise, gave up her duties within the royal family in 2022, both remain part of the line of succession. This gives Maud's step a historic nuance.
This act of courage also highlights the change taking place in royal families, just as Lord Ivar Mountbatten did in the United Kingdom. The acceptance and visibility of the LGBTIQ+ community in royalty marks an important turning point. It shows that love and identity can be lived without fear or reservations, even in the heart of the most traditional monarchies.
