War against King Juan Carlos? They claim King Felipe has made a decision
The latest move made by the emeritus has revealed the position his son has decided to take
The latest step taken by King Juan Carlos, deciding to publish his memoirs, hasn't left anyone indifferent. In fact, it has led to the revelation of the position his son, King Felipe, has taken, and to talk of a war against the emeritus.
Yes, because the current monarch has decided, according to sources close to the Royal Household, to opt for waging a silent war against his predecessor. This means not speaking about him at all and keeping him away from the Crown.

King Juan Carlos breaks his silence: this is what his memoirs will be like
King Juan Carlos has returned to the media spotlight. The reason is that Planeta publishing house has announced that on November 12, his memoirs will be published. It will be a book titled Reconciliation and it's already generating a lot of discussion, as it is now.
After years of speculation, he has taken a step that many thought he would never take, since his father had advised him not to do it. He is telling his own version of events. Through his book, he intends to offer his account of the events that have marked his public and private life, including those that have caused media and institutional scandals.
The goal would be to offer his point of view on what he has experienced. As interpreted, to clean up his image in the eyes of history and public opinion.
The decision, however, hasn't been well received in certain circles, and even less so in Zarzuela. As Vanitatis has reported, King Felipe's inner circle has taken a firm stance: the subject won't be discussed publicly. There won't be any statements before, during, or after the publication of the book.
This stance has suggested that there could be a war against King Juan Carlos. Specifically, a silent war that consists of not giving him any prominence whatsoever. Not mentioning him at all, so as not to link him with the monarchy.
King Felipe's strategy: silent war against King Juan Carlos
What has been interpreted as a possible silent war between father and son isn't new. King Felipe has taken, since the beginning of his reign, a clear line of institutional separation regarding his father's legacy. He has advocated for making the Crown stand out for its austerity, transparency, and a clean image.
Even in his early years on the throne, the husband of Queen Letizia, after his father's scandals, withdrew the financial allocation he was receiving. He also decided to remove him from the official agenda. So much so that King Juan Carlos's visits to Spain, since his move to Abu Dhabi, have been surrounded by controversy, precisely because of this distance set by his son.
Now, with the publication of these memoirs, the distance between the two seems to be growing. According to sources close to the Royal Household, the current monarch hasn't authorized the release of the book. In fact, he has insisted that the work not be linked in any way to the current monarchical institution.

In other words: no official statement, no public event related to it, and, of course, no attempt at defense. It's a way of marking territory. Making it clear that King Felipe wants to build his reign without the shadows of the past.
Paradoxically, King Juan Carlos's book is titled Reconciliation. A name that seeks to convey a pacifying intention, but that, in practice, could have the opposite effect. Many analysts already predict that the publication will reopen old wounds, both within the Royal Family and in public opinion.
The book is expected to address especially sensitive topics: his abdication, his private business dealings, his international connections, and his departure to the United Arab Emirates. It could also address his relationship with other family members, including Queen Sofía herself. Not to mention his role in the Transition, an aspect for which he still retains a certain prestige among some sectors.
