Mexico City fills with color for Spanish tourism after its visit to FITUR 2025

The delegation from the Mexican capital attended the International Tourism Fair on the 700th anniversary of its founding.

Mexico City participated with great success in the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) that took place from January 22 to 26, 2025, at the IFEMA fairgrounds. The Mexican Delegation was led by Alejandra Frausto, Secretary of Tourism of Mexico City, and Carlos Martín Velázquez, General Director of the FONDO MIXTO DE CDMX, who held various meetings and interviews with key players in the tourism sector, as well as with national and international media.

With a colorful and festive participation that conveyed to the Spanish market the best of the "chilango" atmosphere, CDMX brought to FITUR not only the best of its tourist offerings but the heart of its culture: lucha libre, a foosball table that reminded of Mexico as the host of the upcoming World Cup, and a party full of color, tacos, and mezcal were the ideal setting to captivate Spanish operators and opinion leaders.

One of the key topics addressed during Mexico City's participation was the importance of the city as a host for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Additionally, the valuable annual cultural events calendar was highlighted, as well as the gastronomic offerings following the arrival, for the first time, of the Michelin Guide in 2024.

With this, Mexico City consolidates itself as a benchmark destination for high-end tourism and the widest diversity that attracts travelers seeking everything from the richest of Mexican culture in its pre-Hispanic sites, colorful markets, and crafts, to the high standards of Michelin restaurants, Formula 1, or one of the most extensive concert agendas in Latin America.

Among the main actions carried out by the Mexico City delegation at FITUR 2025, the following stand out:

•  "Precopeo Chilango" event: this event took place on January 22 at 7 pm, at the Mexican Cultural Institute in Spain, to promote the city's gastronomy, culture, and tourist attractions in a relaxed and festive atmosphere.

•  Signing of institutional agreements: one with the Secretariat of Tourism of Guerrero (Mexico) and another with the National Chamber of Passenger and Tourism Transportation (Mexico).

•  Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Tourism Directorate of the City of Bogotá (Colombia) for joint collaboration and promotion actions.

•  Presentation of the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside the Mexican states of Nuevo León and Jalisco.

•  Participation in the announcement of Mexico as a partner country invited to the 2026 International Tourism Fair.

•  Cultural visits to the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía and the Museo Nacional del Prado to strengthen cultural collaboration ties between Mexico City and these entities.

With all this, Mexico City leaves a colorful mark on all visitors to FITUR 2025.
