Mario Vaquerizo Points to Alaska and Reveals the Syndrome He Suffered

Mario Vaquerizo, vocalist of Nancys Rubias, attended Marc Giró's Late Xou on TVE this week. An occasion he took advantage of to confess the curious syndrome he suffered in the hospital alongside his wife, Alaska.

During his recovery from the fall, Mario Vaquerizo began to experience unusual visual episodes that made him question his state. "I was lying down, with my wife next to me, and I saw fluorescent pink ferns and tiny dinosaurs. Then rose bushes and plastic bags," the artist stated.

The phenomenon intensified to the point that, on several occasions, he told Alaska that everything seemed fluorescent to him. Statements after which the singer began to think her husband was "a little crazy." But it wasn't until he decided to mention it to his ophthalmologist that he knew what was really happening to him.

Mario Vaquerizo Suffered from 'Alice in Wonderland Syndrome'

Mario Vaquerizo stated that, at that time, his doctor indicated that the medication was not the culprit of his strange vision. According to the artist, after experiencing a significant loss of vision due to the fall, he was suffering from the so-called 'Alice in Wonderland Syndrome.'

This syndrome is characterized by the fact that, when the eye can't capture certain stimuli, the brain generates alternative images. This way, the mind invents signals to compensate for the lack of perception. Everything the eye fails to see, the brain fills in with invented data.

However, Mario Vaquerizo expressed his gratitude after knowing he suffered from this syndrome. Despite the strangeness of the experience, the ophthalmologist told him he could feel fortunate because the images he saw were pleasant.

"She told me I was lucky because it was positive," emphasized Mario Vaquerizo. In some cases, this syndrome can generate unpleasant visions, such as the appearance of insects, which can cause great discomfort and anxiety in the patient. Fortunately, in his case, the experience he lived was visually positive and, in a way, comforting.

Now, after months of recovery and reflection, Mario Vaquerizo has decided to return to the stage with Nancys Rubias, a stage he faces with renewed energy. With his characteristic optimism, he has left the accident behind to return to doing what he loves most. Connecting with his audience through music.
