Denmark on edge: the breakup that leaves King Frederik and his brother Joachim in shock
A pending decision between Frederik and Joaquín raises concern in the Royal House and throughout Denmark
King Frederik X of Denmark and his brother, Prince Joachim, have maintained a relationship marked by discretion. The paths that both took were very different and distant, but they knew how to keep up appearances in public. Although rumors indicate that the relationship between the brothers is not the best.
Since Frederik assumed the crown and Queen Margrethe made some unexpected decisions, everything seems to have changed. In recent weeks, apparently, tension has increased and has begun to be noticed in the closest circles.

An inheritance that threatens to break family peace
The château de Cayx, in France, was bought in 1974 by Queen Margrethe and her husband, Prince Henrik. For decades, this property was the Danish royal family's summer retreat. Although tradition indicates that the heir to the throne is the one who keeps the institution's assets, the château has a different history.
The castle is a private property, personally acquired by the queen and not part of Denmark's heritage or assets. The problem is that Margrethe never made it clear in her will who will inherit this jewel. According to Danish media, this lack of definition is the focus of the current tension between Frederik and Joachim.

Prince Joachim and his bond with the castle
For Joachim, the château de Cayx is not just a summer house. It is the place where he has shared moments with his wife Marie and his children Nikolás and Félix, who feel a deep affection for the property. For years, Joachim was the one who enjoyed this enclave in Cahors the most.
Even after the sale of Schackenborg, his residence in Jutland, Cayx remained his personal refuge. Prince Henrik's words, before he passed away, still resonate: "We have thought about giving it to the eldest, Crown Prince Frederik." But the current situation has changed and the scenarios are different.

Frederik, forced to make a delicate decision
Now, the responsibility falls on Frederik. If Queen Margrethe doesn't solve it during her lifetime, the current monarch will have to decide on the fate of the château.
The queen, consulted in 2018, was clear: "I hope the family finally solves it. I do not want to interfere at all in what my two sons do." That neutrality, however, has left an open wound.
The possibility that Frederik keeps Cayx causes unease in Joachim and his family. The property represents much more than a matter of inheritance: it is a symbol of belonging.
Denmark is watching closely how this situation may escalate in tension. What seemed like a simple procedure has become a bomb that could further fracture the brothers' relationship. The outcome of this story will mark a turning point in Frederik X's reign.
