Frederik and Mary of Denmark still have problems: it's going to explode next week
Tension is rising around the royal couple and a new wave of criticism could change the atmosphere in the coming days
When a people love their monarchs and follow their actions, they also demand that they fulfill the role that corresponds to them. Admiration is not always synonymous with indulgence, and Denmark seems to be running out of patience. They have already forgiven their current royals for other situations, but this brings criticism back to the surface.
Support for the royal family remains high, but that doesn't prevent some decisions from causing discontent. The prolonged absence of Frederik and Mary has sparked a conversation that won't stop.

A trip with no destination that doesn't sit well
On July 6, the royals set off for a destination that hasn't been revealed. Initially, their return was scheduled for the 13th of the same month. However, the break was first extended to July 16, and later it was announced that it would be the 20th.
The Royal House hasn't confirmed who they're with or exactly where they are. "The royal family doesn't reveal the destination or the people accompanying them during their private trips abroad," recalls the newspaper Billed Bladet. Meanwhile, at the palace, Queen Margrethe and Prince Christian have taken on the role of regents.

Criticism for Frederik and Mary of Denmark
The criticism hasn't taken long to arrive. On social media, comments with an ironic tone are multiplying: "It seems like they want endless vacations." The press is also highlighting it with headlines that aren't very indulgent.
Some media outlets point out that Frederik and Mary were "the first crowned heads of Europe" to take a break. This is something that happens in July, but because of how long it's lasted, it has been interpreted as a lack of responsibility. Especially because the institutional agenda is still waiting.
Recent memories that weigh heavily
This isn't the first time Queen Mary's trips have caused controversy this year. In February of this year, she flew to Australia to visit her father. The trip coincided with the first anniversary of her reign and reignited rumors of marital crisis.
The spark had been lit months earlier, after a night out by Frederik in Madrid with Genoveva Casanova. Although no irregular situation was confirmed, the episode remained in the collective memory. Since then, every absence is scrutinized and stirs up controversy.
Frederik and Mary enjoy popular affection, with an approval rating around 85%. However, if they don't resume their commitments soon, the atmosphere could change considerably. Next week could mark a turning point.
