The day has arrived: Charles III shakes up Buckingham Palace and Camilla celebrates it

The gesture by Charles III that no one saw coming and that could change the history of Buckingham Palace forever

European monarchies, although anchored in centuries of tradition, also evolve at the pace of the present. Some gestures change perspectives and break with past structures. In that dynamic, the new steps of figures like Charles III and Camilla are inscribed.

The image of royalty is no longer sustained only by luxury and protocols. Today, kings also speak out and take a stand on issues that move the world. When that happens, the impact from the people and followers quickly becomes evident.

A melody that made history at Buckingham

The United Kingdom experienced next weekend an event that many consider historic. Charles III decided to send, through the official channels of the Royal Household, a brief but powerful message: "Happy Pride!" Two symbols that spoke for themselves accompanied it: a rainbow and a disco ball.

Alongside that post, an even more forceful video appeared on social media. In front of Buckingham Palace, the Coldstream Guards regiment performed an essential version of "Pink Pony Club." The song, which has become a queer anthem, celebrates the desire to live freely, far from conservative environments.

The gesture was received with enthusiasm in the United Kingdom, especially by figures from the LGTBIQ+ community. Designer Daniel Lismore was one of those who celebrated the action as a sign of true support. "It was a historic moment," platforms that track the progress of the community's rights stated.

The echoes of a monarchy in transformation

Until now, no member of the British royal family had expressed such explicit support. Not even during Elizabeth II's 70 years was anything similar seen in public. Since 2023, with Charles on the throne, there hadn't been such a sign either.

The gesture adds to what other family members have previously expressed. In 2022, Prince William supported a campaign for the mental health of LGTBIQ+ people. In 2016, he spoke out against bullying and said he would naturally accept a child from the community.

Openness is not exclusive to the United Kingdom. In Norway, Maud Angelica Behn, daughter of Princess Marta Luisa, came out as bisexual and participated in Pride. Her mother wrote: "Love is never wrong, you are loved, and you never have to apologize for who you are."

With this step, the British crown joins a trend of monarchies more connected to their time. As rarely before, they have done so with clarity and emotion.
