Alerts in these seven areas next weekend due to very strong winds: up to 62 mph

Strong gusts of wind are expected, which can become hurricane-like in certain areas at specific times.

This weekend is expected to be challenging in various regions of Spain. It will be due to the arrival of a storm that will intensify weather conditions, especially on Sunday.

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has already issued warnings of different levels for very strong winds. It has done so to alert the population about the risk that the strong winds will bring, one of the most notable phenomena of this episode.

Very Strong Winds: Seven Communities under Warning

These intense winds will begin to be felt from Saturday in some territories, although they will worsen on Sunday. They will mainly affect seven autonomous communities: Asturias, Cantabria, Castilla y León, Galicia, Navarra, País Vasco, and La Rioja.

Saturday: the Winds Begin

Saturday will be a transitional day, with winds starting to intensify in parts of the northern peninsula. AEMET has activated yellow level warnings for gusts between 70 and 90 km/h (43 and 56 mph) in Asturias, Cantabria, and Castilla y León. Although they will only be in effect during the morning and for a few hours.

In Galicia, although alerts will not be activated until Sunday, the wind is expected to start being felt significantly, especially in exposed and coastal localities.

Sunday: Intensification of the Storm

Sunday will be the most critical day of this episode, with a notable increase in wind strength. The south and southwest wind will intensify in Galicia and the Cantabrian coast, reaching widespread very strong gusts. In mountainous and exposed coastal areas, they could even be hurricane-force.

AEMET has raised the alerts to orange level in Galicia throughout the day, as wind gusts could reach 100 km/h (62 mph). In Cantabria, Castilla y León, Asturias, and Navarra, the warnings will start at yellow level and turn orange as the day progresses, with gusts between 90 and 110 kilometers (56 and 68 mph) in many areas.

País Vasco and La Rioja will remain under yellow warning for winds during Sunday. It is not ruled out that conditions could intensify in specific areas.

Precautions against the Wind Storm

AEMET has emphasized the importance of taking wingere precautions against these winds, especially in communities with orange alerts, where the risk will be considerable. The population is advised to secure objects that could be displaced by the wind, avoid outdoor activities in coastal or mountainous areas, and stay alert to weather updates.

In Galicia, authorities have also warned about the danger on the coast due to the maritime storm, suggesting avoiding beaches, cliffs, and ports.

With this episode, Spain will start a new week marked by meteorological instability, where the wind will be the main feature. While the most intense effects will be concentrated on Sunday, it is likely that the influence of this storm will continue.
