Wells Fargo takes it seriously to the dismay of its customers: 'You're not allowed to do this'
Wells Fargo has an important update to improve the security of transfers in the United States
Wells Fargo has put Zelle transfers under scrutiny, and their users in the United States aren't very happy. The institution has announced a new policy. Now, customers won't be able to make a specific gesture through the Zelle tool in the app or on the website.
Anyone who tries to exceed $3,500 per day will see their transfer blocked. If, at the end of the month, they've moved more than $20,000, they also won't be able to continue until the limit is renewed. This represents a significant change for businesses that previously could operate without these restrictions.
Radical shift at Wells Fargo: their United States customers won't be able to exceed it with Zelle
First, it's a surprise: until now, Zelle was seen as a quick solution with no obvious limits. Now, that comfort zone has changed. Frequent customers might have to split payments: if you want to send $5,000, you'll have to do it over two days.

For transfers greater than $20,000 in a month, you'll have to wait for the 30-day period to expire. This affects both users and small businesses that use Zelle for payroll, recurring payments, or purchases.
Not all is lost for Wells Fargo customers
The limit can vary depending on the type of account. Some premium accounts, such as Premier Checking, Wealth, or business accounts, might have higher permissions. If you've sent money many times to the same recipient, Wells Fargo might increase the daily limit after a few days of an established relationship.

In that case, the amount can rise from $1,000 per day for new recipients to the normal $3,500. The bank is very clear, Zelle was created for quick transfers between acquaintances, not for commercial operations or massive transactions. The daily and monthly limits are there to prevent fraud and protect users.
Pay attention to exceptions to increase the limit
Additionally, Wells Fargo points out that their policy is very similar to that of institutions like Bank of America: the same $3,500 per day and $20,000 in 30 days. With this, they intend for their app and Zelle tool to remain secure.
There are options to increase the limit: open a different account, talk to the bank, and show that you use Zelle frequently and legitimately. In business or high-level accounts, the bank might authorize higher amounts. In other cases, it's advisable to look at alternatives: ACH transfers, wire transfers, or even international remittances with ExpressSend, which have different limits.
