Verizon, prepared for the unexpected

While other companies like AT&T and T-Mobile have made visible improvements to their networks, Verizon has taken a step further. It reinforced its infrastructure to withstand and function when it is most needed.

Currently, its network covers 99% of the areas where people live and work. However, the most impressive thing is its ability to remain operational even if a general collapse occurs.

To achieve this, Verizon has built its network on a solid foundation. Each main operation center is backed by battery systems. There are more than 1,000 mobile generators ready to activate at any moment.

Additionally, they have installed backup power in key facilities and multiple fiber routes. All of this to ensure the signal is kept even if a part of the network fails.

As if that weren't enough, Verizon offers its customers a tool to check the network status in real-time. Whether through their website or via the My Verizon app. This makes it easy to know if there are disruptions in their area during an emergency.

Verizon bets on innovation

But Verizon hasn't stopped at the basics. In collaboration with the startup Hyfi, they have started using sensors connected to their network that can detect floods in real-time. It is capable of sending alerts that allow communities to act before it's too late.

They also have an impressive emergency response fleet. Nearly 3,000 mobile units, including portable cell towers, and drones for damage assessment. To keep everything under control, a specialized team of engineers monitors weather conditions and threats 24/7.

One of Verizon's most ambitious bets is satellite communication. It is already available for devices like the iPhone 14, Galaxy S25, and Pixel 9. This feature allows text messages to be sent even if cell towers are out of service.
