Shock in the United States - This chain is closing all its stores for good
Another well-known American chain closes all its stores in the country after years of economic difficulties
The last few years have been especially tough for the retail sector. Many stores have faced unprecedented challenges that have put their continuity at risk. The pandemic and changes in consumer behavior have radically changed the landscape.
One of the most affected chains is Scrub Pro Uniforms, known for specializing in medical uniforms, especially scrubs. The company, with 12 stores located in Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia, and Pennsylvania, has announced the permanent closure of all its branches. The last store in Turnersville, New Jersey, will close its doors on July 13, 2025, ending its physical presence in the country.

The impact of the pandemic and inflation on the retail sector
The closure of Scrub Pro Uniforms reflects the difficulties that retail businesses have gone through in recent years. The 2020 pandemic forced many stores that weren't considered essential to close temporarily, which caused significant losses. Although chains like Walmart and Costco remained open, many others had to welcome fewer customers or close completely for months.
In addition, inflation has added another layer of complication, and the increase in costs has made it difficult for retailers to keep their inventories full and competitive. Meanwhile, consumers have adjusted their spending, limiting their budgets to essentials and reducing purchases of non-priority products. This has caused many stores, even those with specific niches, to face a drop in sales that ends up affecting their viability.
Scrub Pro Uniforms: a closure that marks the end of an era
Scrub Pro Uniforms isn't the only specialized chain that has had to close. In December 2024, Party City filed for bankruptcy for the second time in two years, citing the change in consumer habits as one of the main causes. Shortly after, the fabric company Joann also filed for bankruptcy protection after years of decline and considerable debt.

The story of Scrub Pro Uniforms followed a similar path. In February 2025, the company announced a liquidation sale with a 50% discount at its Turnersville store. Although at that time they assured customers they wouldn't close, they admitted they had excess inventory in their warehouse. However, weeks later, they began closing stores one after another until reaching the total closure recently announced, according to The Street.
In a statement on its website, the company expressed: "We are filled with gratitude for your loyalty, your smiles, and the stories we've shared along the way." Despite the sadness over the news, many customers will still be able to take advantage of great deals at the Turnersville store before it disappears for good.
This closure represents a loss for those who depended on Scrub Pro Uniforms for their workwear. Although it's possible to find scrubs elsewhere, a specialized store with the expertise and variety this chain offered is difficult to replace.
