Change of plans at Verizon: many Americans can already say goodbye to this in days

Verizon takes a measure that will affect some users, although the carrier tries to minimize the damage

Verizon has announced a major change that will affect many of their users. In the coming days, starting July 9, the company will stop accepting new sign-ups on their digital streaming platform. It's known as +Play.

This news has surprised many. The platform was launched with great enthusiasm in 2022 and has barely reached three years of operation.

For those who aren't familiar, +Play allowed Verizon customers to pay for several streaming services directly from their account. It was a convenient way to group everything in one place. On many occasions, it offered exclusive discounts to users.

However, this advantage is about to come to an end.

Verizon must make it official

Although Verizon hasn't yet published an official statement on their main site, a note on the +Play page already anticipates the decision. Starting July 9, new registrations on the platform will no longer be allowed. In other words, those who want to start using this centralized subscription service won't be able to do so anymore.

In statements sent to specialized media, such as The Streamable, Verizon confirmed the measure. They explained that most of their customers are already using other, more modern programs like myPlan and myHome. These new services let users access streaming content easily, in addition to offering other benefits within the Verizon ecosystem.

Therefore, the company wants to consolidate their products around these new options. Current users who already have their subscriptions active through +Play will be able to keep managing them without issue. However, the possibility of adding new services from that platform will disappear.

Any new subscription will have to be managed from myPlan or myHome. These will be available in the Services and Benefits section of the Verizon portal.

This decision, while understandable from a business strategy perspective, will disappoint some customers. Especially those who valued the occasional discounts offered by +Play. The platform was designed as an all-in-one solution to access streaming content like Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, and more.

Its withdrawal may be seen as a step back by some users who enjoyed that convenience.

It won't affect current customers

For now, current users of Verizon's wireless or home internet services won't see significant changes. As long as they're already using +Play. If you're thinking about joining Verizon after July 9, you should keep in mind that this service will no longer be available.

The operator is adjusting their focus in the streaming market. They're betting on more integrated and possibly more profitable programs for the company. Even though +Play will disappear for new users, the company promises to keep offering access to popular digital services through their new plans.
