Vito Quiles, Uncomfortable Voice of Power, Offers a Talk on Censorship in Journalism in Valencia

The journalist Vito Quiles, known for his staunch defense of press freedom and his courage in confronting political power, will offer a talk-discussion  on March 6 at 7 p.m. in the Sorolla Room of the Ateneo Mercantil of Valencia. Under the title “Censorship and Press Freedom in Spain,” Quiles will address the difficulties he faces daily in reporting from the Congress of Deputies and other areas of national politics.

With a degree in Journalism, Quiles has built a solid career as a street reporter, focusing on the uncomfortable questions that other media prefer to avoid. His coverage of the protests in Catalonia and Spanish national news, where he has suffered attacks while reporting live, and his incisive questions to members of the Government have made him a reference for those who defend brave and independent journalism.

The journalist has denounced numerous times the obstacles and pressures he suffers in the exercise of his informative work, such as the withdrawal of accreditations or the impediments to ask questions in press conferences. These experiences have led him to become a symbol of the fight for freedom of information, also being one of the most visible faces of EDATV.

During the talk, Vito Quiles will share with attendees how censorship and political pressure directly affect citizens' right to receive truthful information. He will also present his personal experiences, such as the lawsuits he has faced for practicing his profession with rigor and honesty.

The talk-discussion will be moderated by Javier García Isac, general director of EDATV and Informa Radio, and is expected to gather a large audience interested in the future of free journalism in Spain.  Admission is free until full capacity is reached.

EDATV invites all its readers to experience Vito Quiles's experiences firsthand and not to miss this unique opportunity to learn firsthand about the challenges faced by independent journalism in our country.
