The Vatican's Latest Decision That Clarifies How Pope Francis's Health Is Now

Tomorrow something may happen that ends up showing what the evolution of the Pontiff's health is like right now

After several weeks since he was discharged from the hospital, Pope Francis's health condition continues to be a subject of attention and concern both inside and outside the Vatican. Although the Holy See has insisted that the Pontiff is recovering favorably, few details have been offered about his recovery.

All this has caused a wave of questions and uncertainty among the faithful and international media. Since his discharge from the hospital, where he was treated for bilateral pneumonia, the Pope has remained secluded in his residence at Santa Marta. He has had little prominence in public or official liturgical events.

His low profile during these days of Holy Week has been notable, delegating many of his functions to other high-ranking officials of the Roman Curia. This was already planned, but it still worries some.

A Possible Significant Reappearance

However, in recent hours, a development has emerged that could mark a turning point in his recovery. The Vatican doesn't rule out that Pope Francis may give the apostolic blessing Urbi et Orbi tomorrow. It is one of the most symbolic and desired acts of the Catholic liturgical calendar, performed only at Christmas and on Easter Sunday.

It is known that the Easter Sunday Resurrection Mass will be presided over at 10:15 a.m. by Cardinal Angelo Comastri in St. Peter's Square. Despite this, everything points to the possibility that the Pontiff himself might appear from the central balcony of St. Peter's Basilica. It would be to offer the historic blessing "to the city and the world."

A Gesture with Strong Symbolic Significance

The official Mass booklet already considers this possibility. It mentions that "the Holy Father Francis grants the plenary indulgence in the form established by the Church to all the faithful present and to those who receive his blessing through radio, television, and other communication technologies." As is customary, the formula will be pronounced by Cardinal Dominique Mamberti, in his capacity as cardinal protodeacon.

The possible presence of the Pope at this event would represent a positive sign regarding his health condition and a first step toward his gradual return to public and liturgical life.

Encouraging Signs, But with Caution

Although some signs of improvement have been seen—such as his recent meeting with the medical team from Gemelli Hospital, without oxygen cannulas—the Vatican insists that the final decision on his appearance will be made on Sunday itself. This will be completely dependent on his physical condition at that time.

Some spokespeople from the Vatican environment have stated that the Pope increasingly needs less oxygen support. This is an indication of a favorable recovery. Even so, the recovery process is ongoing, and all possible precautions are being taken to avoid relapses.
