Valencia exempts those affected by the DANA from paying municipal fees
The Valencia City Council eliminates taxes for the Southern Pedanías
The Valencia City Council has unanimously approved the modification of the Fiscal Ordinances, exempting residents and businesses affected by the DANA last November in the Southern Districts from paying eight municipal fees.
The first deputy mayor and councilor for Finance, María José Ferrer San Segundo, defended in the plenary session the need to apply a "fiscal shield" to the affected families, highlighting that "helping people is making them pay less taxes."
She also called on the Government of Spain to extend the exemption of the Property Tax (IBI) and the Economic Activities Tax (IAE) during 2025, to ease the conditions for their return, and to financially compensate the City Council for the reduction in revenue.
Cancelled municipal fees
The City Council has approved the elimination of fee payments in different areas:
🔹 Occupation of public domain: The collection of fees for the use of driveways, installation of tables and chairs in public spaces, kiosks, extraordinary markets, flea markets, and street markets is eliminated during periods when their activity was not possible due to the DANA.
🔹 Works and reconstruction: The fee for occupying public space with construction materials, opening of trial pits and trenches will not be charged, as long as it is related to reconstruction work after the catastrophe.
🔹 Urban planning actions: Fees for licenses and other urban planning services are eliminated for those works necessary to repair damage caused by the DANA.
🔹 Municipal funeral services: The payment of fees in Municipal Cemeteries is exempted in cases of deaths caused by the DANA, including situations where Valencia has offered its facilities to neighboring municipalities.
With these measures, the City Council seeks to alleviate the economic burden of those affected and promote the recovery of the affected areas, prioritizing reconstruction and support for the families and businesses harmed.
