The director of CNIO continues to make headlines. María Blasco has been the subject of much discussion due to her assets, which include a 1,665 square meter villa (17,922 square feet) in Tres Cantos (Madrid), an apartment in the center of Madrid. Also, two properties and a plot of land in Galicia, in addition to a rustic estate in Alicante.

This has been confirmed by The Objective, which states that, in addition to the villa in Tres Cantos, she owns a 40 square meter (431 square feet) apartment. This property, acquired in 2004, has one bedroom and one bathroom, and its estimated value according to the Idealista portal is around 350,000 euros.

Meanwhile, according to the media, the villa in Tres Cantos consists of a two-story family house. Its construction occupies 516 square meters (5,554 square feet), while the rest corresponds to the land surrounding the property.

This asset was purchased at the time together with her ex-husband, the scientist Manuel Serrano. Subsequently, Blasco obtained full ownership after the dissolution of the marital partnership, as recorded in the Property Registry.

María Blasco and her current partner own several properties in Galicia. Supposedly, in July 2023, they acquired two houses and a plot of land with the intention of establishing a garden. One of the houses is located in the coastal area of Caldebarcos, in La Coruña.

According to the cited media, the property has two floors of 79 square meters (850 square feet) each, in addition to a 22 square meter (237 square feet) shed on the ground floor, intended for services. It also includes a 110 square meter (1,184 square feet) patio.

Irregular Payments

Blasco, meanwhile, according to the media, has irregularly received a total of 319,000 euros in "extra payments" between 2016 and 2024. Supposedly, these extra payments, about 30,000 euros annually, were received by the director of CNIO without entitlement, along with additional payments for royalties that she was also not entitled to.

In 2019, the General Intervention of the State Administration (IGAE) alerted CNIO about this irregularity. In its report, according to the newspaper, the Ministry of Finance department indicated that Blasco had received a total of 90,197 euros.
