Valencia distributes the first 109 bicycles to residents affected by the DANA

379 applications met the requirements established in the terms of the Valencia City Council's call.

The València City Council, in collaboration with the Local Police, has delivered the first 109 bicycles to residents of La Torre, Forn d’Alcedo, and Castellar-L’Oliveral, the districts most affected by the recent flood caused by the DANA.

In total, 379 applications were received that met the requirements established in the call's guidelines, which required being registered in these districts for at least six months and being over 16 years old. The bicycles were allocated through a lottery.

The remaining applicants have been placed on a waiting list. As more bicycles become available, they will be assigned following the established order. Both the beneficiaries and those on the waiting list have been informed by email, and the lottery results will be published on the municipal website.

Currently, the program has been limited to these three districts due to the direct impact of the flood. However, people from other areas of València will be able to participate in future lotteries if bicycles remain available.

Bicycles rehabilitated for basic use

The donated bicycles come from units abandoned in public areas and removed by the Local Police. After not being claimed by their owners, they have been rehabilitated for basic use.

Facilitating mobility after the flood

The program aims to improve the mobility of affected residents, who have suffered the loss of vehicles or disruptions in public transportation.

The registration form was open from December 16 to 31 on the municipal website. Allocations will continue until June 30, and the City Council will announce new calls if more bicycles become available.

With this initiative, València promotes sustainable mobility and strengthens its support for affected residents, driving practical solutions to mitigate the effects of the DANA.
