The city of Castellón celebrated the 40th edition of the Half Marathon next weekend.
The city of Castellón celebrated the 40th edition of the Half Marathon next weekend, a historic event organized by the Unió Atlètica de Castelló that has established itself as the longest-running athletic race in the capital. With the participation of more than 2,200 athletes from 13 countries, this edition was a resounding success in terms of turnout.
The mayor of Castellón, Begoña Carrasco, highlighted during the trophy presentation that this event strengthens the city's position as an international reference in the world of running, combining sports and tourism.
Winners and Notable Results
Luis Agustín, winner of the men's absolute category with a time of 01:08:31.
Alicia Álvarez, winner in the women's category, with a time of 01:16:16.
The race, starting and finishing at Parque Ribalta, covered 21 kilometers (13 miles) through the main streets of Castellón, on a course certified by the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation.
"Active Running Cities" Distinction
Carrasco recalled that Castellón is the first Spanish city to receive the "Active Running Cities" distinction, an acknowledgment awarded last week in Madrid that endorses the city's commitment to sports. According to the mayor, this initiative aims to promote sports practice among residents and attract runners from around the world.
Tourism and Economic Impact
The Half Marathon, under the slogan "Run the Sun, Feel the Fun & Enjoy Castellón," not only promotes athletics but also boosts the city's tourism outside the peak season. The mayor emphasized the positive economic impact of the event, which generates overnight stays, consumption in hospitality and commerce, and fosters the union between sports and tourism.
"Visitors enjoy not only the race but also our cultural, gastronomic offerings and our beaches, which strengthens our image as a sports and tourist destination," added Carrasco.
Special Arrangements and Organization
To ensure the event's success, a comprehensive security and support plan was deployed:
64 officers from the Local Police and Mobility Agents.
Numerous volunteers who assisted in the organization.
A medical deployment led by the Red Cross, ensuring the smooth running of the race.
Next Event: XV Marató bp Castelló
The mayor also reminded that in just three weeks, the XV Marató bp Castelló and the 10K Facsa Castelló will be held, scheduled for Sunday, February 16, 2025. "It will be another great event for our city, which continues to establish itself as a true 'Capital of Sport,' attracting national and international athletes," concluded Carrasco.
Castellón: A City that Lives Sports
With more than 200 annual sports events of various levels, Castellón reaffirms its commitment to sports as a driver of social, economic, and tourism dynamism.
