Trump and Putin Begin Negotiations for Peace in Ukraine
Trump emphasized that, to achieve the end of the conflict, both committed to working very closely
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced this Tuesday that he has had a phone conversation with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin. In which they agreed to immediately start negotiations to end the invasion of Ukraine, which has lasted for almost three years.
"We agreed to work together, very closely, even visiting each other's nations," Trump explained in a message shared on Truth Social. He also noted that both leaders will contact the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, to inform him of the agreement reached.
Trump highlighted that, to achieve the end of the conflict, both committed to working very closely. During the conversation, Putin mentioned Trump's campaign slogan, "common sense," to refer to the solution to the war.

To lead the talks with Russia and Ukraine, Trump has appointed Secretary of State Marco Rubio; CIA Director John Ratcliffe; National Security Advisor Michael Waltz; and Ambassador and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.
"Millions of people have died in a war that wouldn't have happened if I were president, but it did, and therefore it must end. No more lives should be lost!" Trump stated in his message on social media, thanking Putin for "his time."
He also expressed his gratitude for the release of Professor Marc Fogel, detained in Russia since 2021 for attempting to enter the country with medical cannabis. Fogel's release is part of a prisoner exchange. In which the United States will release Alexander Vinnik, a Russian convicted of money laundering.
Although Ukraine was the main topic of the conversation, both leaders also discussed the Middle East, energy, artificial intelligence, the power of the dollar. "Each of us spoke about the strengths of our respective nations and about the great benefit. That, someday, we will gain by working together," added Trump, recalling that Russia and the United States fought together "very successfully" during World War II.

After contacting Putin, Trump also had a "very positive" conversation with the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky. "Like Putin, he wants peace," noted the American President.
"It's time to stop this ridiculous war, in which massive and totally unnecessary deaths and destruction have occurred," Trump commented. He emphasized that the first important step toward peace will be the meeting that JD Vance; Secretary of State Marco Rubio; and the Ukrainian leader will hold this Friday. "I hope the results of that meeting are positive," he concluded.
This rapprochement between Washington and Moscow marks a significant shift in the United States' foreign policy toward the conflict in Ukraine. The international community is closely watching these developments, hoping that the negotiations will lead to a peaceful and lasting resolution.
