This Is Zapatero's Chalet Under His Wife's Name Amid Controversy Over His Ties
The acquisition of this property occurred just one month after returning from one of his trips to Latin America.
A new chalet comes into the spotlight with the focus on José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero. The former head of the Executive, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, has acquired a house valued at approximately 500,000 euros. It is located in the exclusive Puerta de Hierro development in Madrid.
However, the property is registered in the name of his wife, Sonsoles Espinosa. The purchase was made just a month after his return from a controversial trip to Latin America. There, he allegedly met with Venezuela's Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez.

According to Cadastre data, the property, whose acquisition was reported by El Confidencial, has an area of 1,442 sq. ft. (134 square meters). It is situated on a plot of 3,423 sq. ft. (318 square meters).
It is a 1935 construction with a single floor that currently shows significant deterioration. This likely influenced the relatively low purchase price.

Financial documents indicate that Zapatero and his wife applied for a mortgage of 500,000 euros for the property's acquisition. This was formalized on April 18, 2024.
The transaction, registered in Property Registry number 32 of Madrid, took place shortly after the former president's return. It was after a trip to Santa Cruz de la Sierra in Bolivia, where he held meetings with various authorities, including the Venezuelan vice president.
Additionally, the purchase occurred after his frequent visits to China. There he collaborates with various companies and regularly participates in conferences.
