Sánchez's brother keeps making headlines. This time, the existence of the president of Teatro Real, Gregorio Marañón, has been highlighted.
According to Okdiario, David Sánchez and Marañón personally handled the transfer of an agreement between Teatro Real and the Diputación de Badajoz, which was finalized in early 2019.
The purpose of this agreement was, according to the outlet, to "strengthen activities in the educational and cultural fields." This was through Ópera Joven, a program directed by the musician.
After the transfer of the agreement, according to the newspaper, the government increased contributions to the Fundación Teatro Real in the State's General Budgets. Reaching up to 20.2 million in 2023.
However, it was revealed, according to the outlet, that Marañón had appointed Sánchez's brother to his "advisory board." Due to this, the president of the organization was highly criticized.
However, Gregorio Marañón sent a letter to the patrons. In it, he defended Sánchez's incorporation, highlighting his career in the cultural field and his role as a representative of the Extremaduran institution.
As confirmed by the outlet, the UCO is investigating alleged communications between the two. A "high-level" contact, with which he allegedly managed to secure a beneficial agreement for the development of his opera program.
"Dear Gregorio. Thank you, the truth is we're very excited about the possibilities this agreement opens up," the alleged messages read. "Dear David, don't hesitate to call me if there's a delay or any problem arises, a friendly hug, Gregorio."
Marañón's Stepdaughter
Pedro Sánchez's government directly appointed Pilar Sánchez-Bella Solís, Gregorio Marañón's stepdaughter, president of Teatro Real. Her role would be to head the Department of Foreign Affairs at La Moncloa. Gregorio Marañón is also pointed out as the person behind the appointment of the president's brother to the Advisory Board of Teatro Real, Spain's main opera center.
According to Okdiario, this important position in the Presidency of the Government has been granted to Sánchez-Bella Solís, daughter of María del Pilar de Solís and Martínez-Campos. The latter married Gregorio Marañón in a second marriage in 2000. Additionally, David Azagra serves as an advisor in the same entity.
Pilar Sánchez-Bella began her career in 2019 as an advisor in the Department of Foreign Affairs at La Moncloa, according to the outlet. She was later promoted to deputy director of the department and, more recently, rose to principal director.
