Sánchez Sends 7,000 More Mossos to Catalonia While He Forgets Ceuta and Melilla

Figaredo accused Sánchez himself of having 'ceded the customs' of Ceuta and Melilla

Pedro Sánchez is in the eye of the storm. The Government and the Generalitat of Catalonia have agreed to increase the Mossos d'Esquadra forces to reach 25,000 officers by 2030. This has been confirmed by Vozpópuli.

This reinforcement will allow the regional police to take charge of border control in collaboration with the National Police and the Civil Guard.

A shock plan will be initiated with the aim of Catalonia at least matching the average number of judges in the rest of Spain. Meanwhile, the first steps are being taken for the creation of a new body, the Investment Consortium.

It will be of a joint nature and aims to streamline investments in Catalonia. This consortium will be governed by the "average public investment over GDP in the entire State".

It is important to highlight that this decision is being made while Ceuta and Melilla are completely neglected in border control matters. This was confirmed by the secretary general of Vox's parliamentary group in Congress, José María Figaredo.

More specifically, Figaredo accused Sánchez himself of having "ceded the customs" of both places. In an interview with Radio Libertad, the Vox deputy for Asturias replied to the negotiations between Spain and Morocco on the opening of the customs of the two autonomous cities. In his intervention, he stated that the Government has "ceded the customs to Morocco".

Sánchez's Favor to Puigdemont

Núria Parlon, head of the Interior Department, has revealed that the Mossos d'Esquadra will take over the management of security in Catalan ports and airports starting in September. This measure will not be implemented earlier due to the lack of available forces.

This has been assured by Vozpópuli. Parlon has stated that it is a "reasonable" decision and a management that they will share with the Civil Guard and the National Police.

Despite this, it has not yet been clarified if Junts is willing to accept these conditions. On that, she mentioned that "negotiations are always this, you have to reach a common denominator".

Parlon has emphasized that the fact that Catalonia assumes more competencies is beneficial for the community. However, she has warned that for these attributions to be truly effective, it is essential to increase the number of officers.

In this line, she has urged the neoconvergents to show the same determination to demand more forces as they do when demanding new competencies. According to her calculations, the Mossos d'Esquadra force should reach 25,000 officers.
