Ribera Leads the Advance Toward Equality with His CEO and Six Directors

More than 4,500 women work in its healthcare centers, where they take care of health, conduct research, and innovate to improve physical and emotional care.

The Ribera healthcare group commemorates International Women's Day by highlighting female leadership in its organization and its impact on the quality of healthcare. "We are proud to be leaders in implementing equality policies and training plans that promote the internal advancement of our professionals," says Elisa Tarazona, CEO of Ribera, a doctor by profession and recently recognized among the TOP 100 female leaders in Spain for her career and commitment to equity in the healthcare field.

At Ribera, women represent 72% of its more than 9,200 professionals, and 56% of management positions are held by them. Alongside Tarazona, five women are part of the Management Committee (Financial, Private, Clinical Diagnostics, and Communication and Marketing Areas), and six serve as hospital managing directors: María Pilar Navarro (Hospital Universitario de Torrejón), Ángela Guerra (Ribera Povisa), Amelia Ávalos (Ribera Virgen de la Caridad), Vanesa Álvarez (Ribera Covadonga), Isabel Muñoz (Ribera IMSKE), and Sandra Fernández (HC Miraflores).

Breaking Stereotypes with Female Leadership

The female hospital directors at Ribera emphasize that one of the greatest challenges has been overcoming gender stereotypes in senior management. "Leadership doesn't depend on gender, but on the skills and values of each person," asserts María Pilar Navarro. Ángela Guerra highlights the importance of showing professional qualifications to overcome prejudices, while Vanesa Álvarez emphasizes flexibility and adaptability as essential qualities in a constantly evolving healthcare environment.

Leadership with Values

Integrity, empathy, and teamwork are the pillars of female leadership at Ribera. Amelia Ávalos and María Pilar Navarro agree that understanding the needs of patients and the team is key to effective management. Ángela Guerra points out that honesty builds trust, while Vanesa Álvarez advocates for leadership based on serving others, promoting equality and balance within the team.

Impact on Healthcare

Female leadership not only promotes equity but also improves the quality of healthcare. "The professional development of women strengthens patient care," highlights María Pilar Navarro. Amelia Ávalos adds that diversity in management brings a more innovative and strategic vision to hospital management.

Ribera is committed to equity with updated Equality plans, work-life balance measures such as telecommuting, flexible hours, and support for motherhood and fatherhood. The directors encourage young professionals to trust in their worth, seek mentors, and remain in constant learning. "Training, confidence, and perseverance are the keys to leading with vision and commitment," they conclude.
