The Revealing Confession of the 'Mastermind' of the Hydrocarbons Scheme

The man who has been identified by the UCO as the 'mastermind' of the 'fuel scheme' provides details of the operations

Witnesses of the controversial "hydrocarbons case" have been in the spotlight this week. These days have been marked by the statements of key figures in the plot, such as Koldo's brother, Joseba García, and Luis Alberto Escolano. However, the statement that marks a decisive moment in the investigation has been that of Javier Cillán, who had been pointed out as the "mastermind of the plot."

Javier Cillán denies being the mastermind of the multimillion-dollar hydrocarbons fraud. Cillán rejected this Wednesday before the National Court being the mastermind of the hydrocarbons fraud plot. A plot that, according to the Central Operational Unit of the Civil Guard, allowed businessman Víctor de Aldama and his partners to defraud 231 million euros.

Allegedly, Cillán has presented himself as a mere administrative worker acting under the orders of María Luisa Rivas and Pedro Antonio Marín, both also investigated in the case. Additionally, he has argued that the company Villafuel was exempt from paying VAT due to its status as an operator in the sector.

During his statement, Javier Cillán chose to answer only his lawyer's questions. He also insisted that his role was limited to executing the instructions of María Luisa Rivas, sister of Claudio Rivas, Aldama's partner. However, the UCO points to him, along with Rivas, as co-director of an organized and hierarchical structure.

According to the investigators, below Cillán and Rivas was a deputy director responsible for overseeing the commercial strategy and coordinating operations. These were later executed by a trusted operations manager.

Cillán Rejects Being a Key Piece in the Hydrocarbons Fraud Plot

Investigators have pointed to Javier Cillán as an expert in the commercial operations of the investigated network. According to the UCO, he played a key role in the accounting and coordination of all the parties involved. According to the Civil Guard, his work was considered "essential" for the functioning of the fraudulent scheme.

However, Cillán has denied these accusations before the National Court, claiming that when he started working for Villafuel, he had no experience in the hydrocarbons sector. With this statement, he seeks to distance himself from the coordinator role attributed to him by the UCO agents.
