Record Participation in the III Solidarity Women's Race in Alicante
The Councilor for Social Welfare and Public Rights, Begoña León, has highlighted the special nature of the event
The III Prosolia Alicante Women's Race broke records this Sunday with the participation of a thousand athletes in an event that combined sports, solidarity, and inclusion. The race, with a five-kilometer (3.1 mi) route, started and finished at 'Sergio Melgares' Park in PAU-5, and was a true celebration of women's sports.
The Councilor for Social Welfare and Public Rights, Begoña León, highlighted the special nature of the event, which "in addition to being a magnificent opportunity to practice sports, makes visible and advocates for the role of women in all areas of society." Alongside her, the Councilor for Sports, Toni Gallego, joined the participants at the start.
Beyond the sporting aspect, the race had a strong solidarity component, as the funds raised from the registration fees will be allocated to the social projects of the Sisters Oblates of the Most Holy Redeemer. This organization works in Alicante supporting women in prostitution, victims of trafficking, and those affected by gender violence.
The race offered the possibility of being completed either running or walking, which encouraged a diversity of participants and a family-friendly atmosphere. The high demand forced the organization to increase the number of registrations, exceeding initial forecasts.
In addition to the individual competition, trophies were awarded in different categories that highlighted female team participation, with prizes for pairs of sisters, married couples or domestic partners, mothers and daughters, and even grandmother-mother-granddaughter.
With this successful turnout and strong institutional and citizen support, the III Prosolia Alicante Women's Race is established as a benchmark in the city's sports and solidarity calendar.
