PSOE rewards the advisor who leaked Ayuso's boyfriend's email to Lobato

The woman who propelled and sank Juan Lobato becomes Óscar López's right-hand person

Pilar Sánchez Acera has been appointed as the organization secretary of PSOE in Madrid. The decision makes her the right-hand person of the new leader of the Madrid federation, Óscar López.

The information has been confirmed by socialist sources after the first day of the party's XV regional Congress.

The event is being held at the Carlos III University of Leganés, where López has been ratified as the general secretary of PSOE-M.

Sánchez Acera was at the center of the internal crisis that ended with Juan Lobato's resignation in November. She was the one who sent information about the investigation to Isabel Díaz Ayuso's partner, Alberto González Amador.

The messages included details about alleged tax crimes, information that Lobato used in the Madrid Assembly.

The handling of that episode weakened trust within the party. Some sectors of PSOE-M believe that Sánchez Acera played a decisive role in Lobato's downfall. Despite this, her influence in Madrid politics hasn't diminished.

Support from Ferraz and Moncloa

Party sources claim that this appointment reflects the support of Ferraz and Moncloa for Sánchez Acera.

They describe her as a socialist with a deep understanding of Madrid's PSOE. They note that "she has the entire region in her head" and that "she hasn'thing to hide."

A consolidated trajectory in Madrid socialism

Born in Madrid in 1974, Sánchez Acera holds a degree in Business Sciences from the Autonomous University of Madrid. Her political career began in the Alcobendas City Council, where she was a councilor between 1999 and 2007. She then moved to the Madrid Assembly, where she served as a deputy between 2007 and 2011.

In 2012 she attempted to lead Madrid's PSOE, facing Tomás Gómez in primaries. She didn't achieve her goal, but she continued to play a significant role in the party.

In 2015, alongside Ángel Gabilondo, she returned to the Madrid Assembly as deputy spokesperson.

Under Juan Lobato's leadership, she held the position of Institutional Policy Secretary of PSOE-M. In 2023 she was appointed chief of staff to Óscar López, who at that time was heading Pedro Sánchez's cabinet. To take on that role, she left her seat in the Madrid Assembly.

Influence and controversy within PSOE-M

Despite her official departure from the Assembly, Sánchez Acera never distanced herself from Madrid politics. Party members claim she has closely followed the movements within PSOE-M.

Some internal voices point to her as responsible for propelling Juan Lobato and then betraying his trust.

The episode of the emails registered before a notary continues to raise doubts among some members. For them, her role in the party's crisis hasn't been fully clarified.

However, her appointment as number two in Madrid shows that she still has the support of the socialist leadership.

The future of PSOE in Madrid

With Óscar López leading PSOE-M and Sánchez Acera as his number two, the party begins a new phase in Madrid. The Madrid federation faces the challenge of regaining political ground against Isabel Díaz Ayuso's dominance.

The new leadership will need to rebuild internal unity after recent tensions. Sánchez Acera's appointment confirms that Ferraz is betting on a strategy of continuity in the region.

Her influence and knowledge of the party will be crucial in the coming months.
