The Mayor, Luis Barçala, has inaugurated the exhibition on Avenida de la Constitución along with the Regional Secretary of Culture, Pilar Tébar, and the President of the Iberdrola Spain Foundation, Jaime Alfonsín.
Barçala has highlighted that "the heart of the city becomes a spectacular open-air museum for a month that not only brings art closer to the people but also enriches our cultural offering, fosters interest in painting through universal works, and promotes a greater appreciation of the enormous artistic heritage housed by the Prado Museum, which is a source of pride for all Spaniards."
The Mayor has encouraged "the people of Alicante and visitors to go out to the streets to encounter art, history, and the best of our valuable cultural heritage that we have the fortune to enjoy for a month" and has pointed out the "informative and educational value" of this open-air exhibition.
"El Prado en las Calles" is a traveling exhibition currently touring different points of the Valencian Community. It is organized by the National Prado Museum and the Iberdrola Foundation on the occasion of the bicentennial celebration of the art gallery with the collaboration of the Department of Culture.
In it, you can see 50 life-size reproductions of great masters like Velázquez, Goya, Rubens, and Caravaggio, among others. Additionally, each of the bilingual informational panels supporting these replicas is joined by QR codes that provide more information about the history of the Prado Museum and its collections.
The Regional Secretary has highlighted "the success of this initiative, which offers a unique opportunity to get to know up close and in detail some of the universal masterpieces housed by Spain's premier art gallery." Additionally, it represents "an added incentive to the excellent cultural and tourist offering that the city of Alicante has," Tébar added.
The President of the Iberdrola Spain Foundation has emphasized the importance of the exhibition, in which "we bring art to the street thanks to its magnificent reproductions and provide everyone who comes to see it with an experience very similar to visiting the gallery itself. This exhibition is enjoyable, fun, and we can get close to the paintings and see all their details."
At the inauguration event, the Councilor for Culture, Antonio Peral, the Head of Communications of the Prado Museum, Carlos Chaguaceda, and the Management Technician of the General Coordination of Education of the Prado Museum, Fernando Pérez Suescun, participated, who led the tour to enjoy the most important schools of Western art such as the Flemish, Italian, French, German, and Dutch, in addition to the Spanish. Members of the municipal corporation also attended.
