Police search Alcalá de Henares Sports City over PSOE contracts
The National Police's UDEF has already conducted the first searches for municipal documentation.
PSOE of Alcalá de Henares is embroiled in a new controversy. The Court of Instruction number 6 of Alcalá de Henares is conducting an investigation into the contracts linked to the Sports City. All of them under the management of the current socialist deputy Javier Rodríguez Palacios.
This procedure was initiated following a complaint pointing to alleged cases of prevarication and embezzlement of public funds.
On January 8, agents from Group XXVI of the UDEF of the Provincial Brigade of the Judicial Police conducted a search. It was carried out in the municipal offices. The investigation originated from suspicions of irregularities that occurred during the socialist administration.
Judge Manuel Chacón Alonso authorized the police procedures on December 10, after issuing an order that endorsed the steps taken. The opening of preliminary proceedings was decided on October 4, 2024. The Prosecutor's Office supported the actions to "verify facts with indications of a criminal nature," although it opposed the secrecy of the proceedings.
The agents seized the complete file of Ángel Sánchez Barajas. He was the general coordinator of sports during the socialist period. Also of Enríquez Rodríguez Santos, municipal technician and head of Contracting, Purchasing, and Human Resources.
Simultaneously, the judge has requested information on the positions, appointments, and salaries received by both since January 1, 2018.
Meanwhile, Víctor Acosta, president of the Board of Directors of the Sports City, spoke this Monday. He confirmed that he has called an extraordinary meeting with the aim of requesting that the Municipal Sports City be constituted as an aggrieved party.
This, after it became known that the UDEF is investigating alleged irregular contracts that occurred during the period of socialist management. Both of Javier Rodríguez Palacios and Alberto Blázquez at the head of the organization.
The investigation was initiated after a complaint filed by Víctor Acosta, president of the Municipal Sports City and spokesperson for VOX in the City Council. All related to the disappearance of key documentation. Subsequently, the case was assigned to Group 26 of the UDEF (Economic and Fiscal Crime Unit).
Acosta emphasized that the current management team is willing to fully cooperate with the National Police and the Justice. This way, he has offered all the necessary documentation that may be required during the process.
The local spokesperson for Vox, Víctor Acosta, asserts that "we have arrived with the firm purpose of driving change. The situation in which the Municipal Sports City was found was truly alarming.
Therefore, I didn't hesitate for a moment to file the complaint that managed to capture the attention of the authorities. This way, try to steer the situation of the Organization."
Acosta accuses PSOE of recurrent use of public funds. "Specifically, the money of the residents of Alcalá, as if it were something ethereal that doesn't require effort." He adds that "it's essential to clarify political responsibilities and determine the scope of these alleged irregularities."
