The Fundación Mutua Madrileña launches its XXII Call for Medical Research Grants, with an endowment of 2.3 million euros (2.53 million dollars). This fund will be allocated to finance new clinical studies in various specialties, developed in hospitals throughout Spain. Interested researchers can submit their applications until March 5 through the foundation's website.

For 22 years, Fundación Mutua Madrileña has been promoting these grants, which have already enabled the launch of more than 1,450 projects. Its commitment to medical research has been constant over these two decades, with a cumulative investment of more than 70 million euros (77 million dollars). In the last edition, 23 projects were supported in 18 hospitals across 8 autonomous communities.

In this new call, funding will be directed to projects in the following areas:

  • Transplants, focused on graft immunotolerance, bioartificial organs, and organ preservation.
  • Oncology, centered on head and neck tumors.
  • Traumatology and its sequelae, including those of neurological origin.
  • Rare diseases, with clinical manifestation in childhood.
  • Mental health, with special attention to the prevention and approach of child and adolescent suicide.

To be eligible for these grants, projects must be developed in an accredited Health Research Institute (IIS). The bases and application form are available at the link. The deadline is March 5 at 1:00 p.m.

Special categories

With the aim of promoting collaboration between hospitals from different autonomous communities, the call includes a special category for projects developed by teams from at least four different communities.

Additionally, a specific allocation has been reserved for studies led by specialists from the Adeslas medical team, the health insurer of the Mutua Group, in collaboration with Caixabank.

The proposals will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee of Fundación Mutua Madrileña, chaired by Dr. Rafael Matesanz and composed of prominent experts such as Ana Lluch, Enriqueta Ochoa, Miguel Caínzos, Antonio Torres, and Fernando Marco.

International cooperation scholarships

Meanwhile, the foundation has launched the XII Call for International Cooperation Scholarships 2025, aimed at doctors and nurses who altruistically collaborate in care projects in developing countries. The call will remain open until March 5 at 1:00 p.m. on the foundation's website.
