Mompó demands to include 28 municipalities in the list of those affected by the DANA
. Currently, this list includes 75 municipalities, but it hasn't been updated since its publication.
The Diputación de Valencia has formally requested the Government of Spain to include 28 additional localities from the province in the list of municipalities affected by the DANA, established in Royal Decree-law 6/2024 approved on November 5. Currently, this list includes 75 municipalities, but it hasn't been updated since its publication, leaving out numerous localities also affected by the floods.
Claim for territorial equality
In a letter addressed to the Government Delegate in the Comunitat Valenciana, Pilar Bernabé, the Provincial Deputy of European Funds, Juan Ramón Adsuara, has denounced that the initial list doesn't reflect the reality of the affected municipalities, creating a situation of territorial inequality. According to Adsuara, recognizing these localities would allow them to access state and European aid aimed at alleviating the effects of the catastrophe.
"It's essential that aid reaches all localities affected by this extraordinary meteorological phenomenon equitably, thus ensuring equal opportunities in their economic and social recovery," stated Adsuara.
Necessary update of the decree
The deputy pointed out that the hasty preparation of the initial list, in a chaotic context following the DANA, is understandable. However, subsequent technical reports, such as the one from the Chamber of Commerce on November 22, have shown that several severely affected municipalities weren't included.
Adsuara also mentioned that the Generalitat Valenciana has already made two extensions to its list, on November 19 and December 16, urging the central Government to follow the same example. The lack of update of the decree, he assured, leaves families, farmers, small business owners, and local administrations in a vulnerable situation, unable to access the necessary aid.
Municipalities proposed for inclusion
The Diputación de Valencia has requested the inclusion of the following localities:
Ribera Alta and La Safor: Alberic, Barxeta, Benimodo, Carcaixent, Castelló, l’Énova, Manuel, Rafelguaraf, Senyera, Tous, La Pobla Llarga, Xeraco.
Los Serranos and Rincón de Ademuz: Aras de los Olmos, Benagéber, Castielfabib, Chelva, Chulilla, Losa del Obispo, Titaguas, Tuéjar, Villar del Arzobispo.
Camp de Túria and Hoya de Buñol: Benaguasil, Casinos, Gavarda, Massalavés, Sant Joanet, Benimuslem, Millares.
All these municipalities meet the criteria established to access the aid and have already been considered affected by the floods by the regional government.
The Diputación de Valencia insists on the urgency of updating the Royal Decree, so the 28 excluded municipalities can benefit from the necessary aid for recovery. This recognition is essential to ensure equity and avoid territorial inequality that, according to Adsuara, especially affects the most vulnerable sectors of these localities.
