Mompó asks to suspend fiscal rules for municipalities affected by the DANA

It's a fair and necessary request to alleviate the economic burden and facilitate a quicker recovery.

The president of the Diputació de València, Vicent Mompó, has requested the Government to suspend fiscal rules for the municipalities affected by the recent DANA. During his visit to Massanassa with Mª José García-Pelayo, president of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), Mompó highlighted the importance of FEMP acting as a "single voice" representing the affected municipalities.

The provincial leader noted that towns like Chiva, Macastre, and Carlet have requested this measure, but surprisingly it has been denied, even though in 2021 it was allowed in similar cases, like La Palma. "This is a fair and necessary request to alleviate the economic burden and facilitate a quicker recovery," stated Mompó, urging the Minister of Territorial Policy, Ángel Víctor Torres, to consider his previous experience in emergency situations to support this claim.

In the meeting, Mompó emphasized the importance of collaboration between institutions to ensure a quick and effective reply. He thanked FEMP for its involvement from the very beginning and stressed the need for coordination to restore normalcy in the affected towns.

Another of his proposals includes that municipalities with more than 100,000 inhabitants offer specialized technical personnel to expedite administrative procedures. He also advocated for the creation of a single emergency resource platform to optimize the management of resources and services in such situations.

Finally, Mompó insisted that the central government include in the November Royal Decree the 28 municipalities excluded from state aid, despite having suffered the effects of the flood. "We can't allow there to be first and second-class towns. All those affected must receive the necessary support for their recovery," he concluded.

This series of measures aims to strengthen support for the affected municipalities, ensuring their reconstruction in a faster and more equitable manner.
