Carlos Mazón: "Only 28 municipalities in Valencia will remain at level 2 emergency"
Metrovalencia and Metrobús will be free for those affected throughout 2025
The president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, has announced that only 28 municipalities in the province of Valencia will remain at level 2 of emergency following the floods of October 29. This technical proposal will be presented tomorrow at CECOPI. According to Mazón, another 75 municipalities will move to level 1, while the remaining 163 will no longer be in an emergency situation.
Level 2 implies that the municipalities still need external support, while level 1 allows the localities to manage the emergency with their own resources, focusing on reconstruction.
Free public transportation throughout 2025
Mazón has announced that Metrovalencia and Metrobús will be free for those affected throughout 2025, a measure that complements the 886.8 million euros in direct aid mobilized by the Generalitat. Of this aid, 58% has already been paid, compared to 7% from the central government.
The aid includes compensation for vehicle loss, urgent home repairs, and grants for freelancers, municipalities, and cultural entities, among others. Additionally, Mazón has highlighted that this aid is tax and interest-free, streamlining the processes to ensure support for those affected.
Criticism of the central government
During his speech, Mazón denounced the "disloyalty" and lack of coordination of the central government, criticizing that it has only approved part of the requested aid and that these include loans with interest. He also lamented the slowness in processing European funds and accused the executive of "using the pain of those affected for political purposes."
Increase in medical school places
Mazón has announced an agreement to convert the 27 public hospitals in the Community into university hospitals, which will increase medical degree places by 15% and make the Community a benchmark for healthcare practices. He lamented that the lack of action by previous governments has prevented the training of more professionals in recent years.
With these measures, the Generalitat reaffirms its commitment to the reconstruction and well-being of the Valencians.
