Mazón Highlights the Importance of Science and Talent in Improving Quality of Life

The President of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, has emphasized the value of science and talent "to advance, overcome challenges, and improve quality of life" during the presentation of the Jaume I Awards, held at the Lonja de los Mercaderes in València and presided over by King Felipe VI.

Mazón has expressed gratitude for the Royal Family's commitment to science and their support for the Valencian Community following the recent floods. He has also highlighted the effort of the Valencian people to restore normalcy and noted that the Jaume I Awards are a stimulus to promote research and innovation.

The head of the Consell has defended the essential role of science in protecting the natural environment, infrastructure, and social well-being, advocating for public authorities to "care for and encourage" scientific work. He has recalled that innovation is key to improving employment, productivity, and wealth, and has cited the ValER program as an initiative to attract and retain research talent with permanent contracts and better working conditions.

Mazón has emphasized the need to seize the opportunity presented by the era of innovation and has called on administrations to promote investment in science and technology. In this regard, he has advocated for public-private collaboration to make the Valencian Community a benchmark in biomedicine, data management, electric mobility, and clean energies, such as green hydrogen.

Additionally, he has congratulated the awardees for being an "example and reference" in their respective fields and has acknowledged the work of the jury and the Valencian Foundation of the Jaume I Awards in promoting scientific research. For Mazón, these awards demonstrate that Spain has a great critical mass of excellence in science and innovation and ensure that the awarded talent is always of the highest level.
