This is the key tool to recover the Attorney General's mobile messages

The UCO will use Cellebrite software, an Israeli tool known for its ability to recover deleted data.

The Supreme Court judge has tasked the UCO with recovering deleted messages from the Attorney General's phone Álvaro García Ortiz.

The magistrate issued this request after it became known that García Ortiz changed phones on October 23, 2024, a week after the Supreme Court began an investigation against him.

To carry out this task, the Central Operational Unit will use Cellebrite software, an Israeli tool recognized for its ability to recover deleted data and decrypt information on electronic devices.

Cellebrite not only allows the extraction of deleted messages but also access to passwords, encrypted conversations, and other sensitive data. It's capable of working with a wide variety of devices, including mobile phones, USB drives, GPS devices, and drones.

The data extraction process using Cellebrite takes between five and seven hours per device, ensuring that the terminal's content isn't altered during the procedure. Subsequently, a digital index is caused with all the organized information, such as photos, documents, and conversations.

Despite the breadth of extracted data, the judge's access to this information is strictly limited. A chain of custody supervised by the investigators ensures that only data relevant to the case is delivered to the magistrate, in a secure format like a flash drive.

Cellebrite has proven its effectiveness in high-profile cases. In Spain, it stood out in the investigation of the murder of Diana Quer, where it allowed the recovery of information from a phone submerged in saltwater for two months. It was also used by the FBI in the San Bernardino terrorist case to unlock a protected phone.

This forensic software has revolutionized technological and legal investigations, allowing forensic teams to obtain detailed reports in a few hours. The tool is so sophisticated that its cost amounts to 150,000 euros per device, an investment justified by its precision and judicial validity.

Besides its technical capability, Cellebrite adheres to strict legal standards. Its use avoids violating fundamental rights like privacy and ensures that no crimes of disclosure of secrets are committed during the process.

Since its adoption in 2015, Cellebrite has transformed the way complex investigations are approached, facilitating the resolution of high-impact cases globally. In Spain, it has become an indispensable tool for security forces in sensitive investigations.

Cellebrite's technology will continue to be key in the forensic field, where access to deleted or protected information is crucial for solving crimes. Its precision, speed, and judicial validity consolidate its position as a leader in the field of data recovery.
