Javier Milei Will Visit Spain to Receive the Escuela de Salamanca Award

The leader will travel to Madrid on March 20 to receive the Escuela de Salamanca Award, granted by the Club de los Viernes.

The President of Argentina, Javier Milei, has scheduled his third visit to Spain since taking office. The head of state will travel to Madrid on March 20 to receive the Escuela de Salamanca Award, granted by the Club de los Viernes. This award recognizes outstanding figures in the defense of civil liberties and limited government.

The award ceremony is scheduled for March 21 in Madrid. In previous editions, personalities such as Jesús Huerta de Soto and Federico Jiménez Losantos have been honored with this recognition.

So far, Milei's complete agenda during his stay in Spain has not been detailed. It is unknown whether he will hold meetings with Spanish authorities or participate in other official events.  On his last visit to Madrid, in June 2024, Milei met with Isabel Díaz Ayuso, President of the Community of Madrid, who awarded him the community medal.

The diplomatic relationship between Argentina and Spain has experienced moments of tension in the past. During a previous visit, in May 2024, Milei participated in a political event organized by Vox.

On that occasion, his criticisms of the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, and his wife, Begoña Gómez, provoked a diplomatic crisis between the two countries. Spain recalled its ambassador in Buenos Aires for consultations and demanded a public apology that did not materialize.

Currently, the Argentine embassy in Madrid remains without a designated ambassador, following the withdrawal of the proposed candidate in December. Meanwhile, Spain appointed a new ambassador to Argentina at the end of October 2024, aiming to strengthen bilateral relations.

In addition to his visit to Spain, Milei is scheduled to travel to Israel on March 23. These trips are part of an international agenda that seeks to strengthen ties with different countries and participate in globally relevant events.

The Argentine community in Spain is eagerly anticipating the President's visit. It is expected that Milei may hold meetings with businesspeople and representatives of civil society to address topics of common interest. In previous visits, the head of state met with Spanish businesspeople to learn about their investment plans in Argentina.

The Club de los Viernes, organizer of the award Milei will receive, is a movement that promotes the defense of civil liberties, property rights, and limited government. Founded in Spain, it has gained recognition for its work in spreading liberal thought and its criticism of state interventionism.

Milei's visit to Spain and his participation in this event could contribute to strengthening ties between the two countries in areas such as the economy, culture, and politics. It is expected that during his stay in Madrid, the Argentine President will address topics of bilateral and regional interest in a global context of constant challenges and opportunities.
