Make Yourself Heard asks the Supreme Court to appear as a popular prosecution against the Attorney General

Álvaro García Ortiz will have to testify before Supreme Court Judge Ángel Hurtado on January 29.

Hazte Oír has requested before the Supreme Court to appear as a popular prosecution  in the case against Álvaro García Ortiz.

The Attorney General faces accusations of an alleged leak  linking the partner of Isabel Díaz Ayuso, leader of PP.

This request comes after the registration of a bill by PSOE that seeks to limit the figure of the popular prosecution.

PSOE's proposal suggests restrictions to Article 125 of the Constitution, which supports this judicial tool in Spain.

Álvaro García Ortiz must testify before Supreme Court Judge Ángel Hurtado on January 29 for this investigation.

The UCO issued reports that reinforce the criminal indications in the case against the Attorney General. The testimony coincides with another process questioning García Ortiz's suitability as Attorney General.

APIF's appeal against his appointment will be analyzed by the Supreme Court's Administrative Litigation Chamber on January 28.

APIF points out that a previous conviction for abuse of power shows he is not a jurist of recognized prestige, as required by law.

The Organic Statute of the Public Prosecutor's Office, in its Article 29, establishes the requirements to hold this public office.

The case has caused political and judicial controversy, especially after PSOE's initiatives to limit popular prosecutions.

Hazte Oír argues that their appearance is legitimate and necessary to ensure transparency in the judicial process.

The association opposes PSOE's initiatives, which they consider an attempt to protect the Attorney General from justice. Álvaro García Ortiz was appointed in 2022, but his management has been surrounded by criticism for controversial decisions.

The case remains a sensitive issue, where the independence of the judicial system is at the center of the political debate. As these cases progress, the Supreme Court has the responsibility to determine if there are any crimes attributable to the Attorney General.

Hazte Oír's request highlights the public's interest in a transparent process and access to justice without limitations.

The figure of the popular prosecution has been key in numerous cases of public interest, according to its supporters.  January 29 will be decisive for the cause, with the Attorney General's testimony and the analysis of APIF's appeal.

Hazte Oír believes that the proposed reforms should not affect the oversight of political and judicial power in Spain.
