The Gulf of Mexico Becomes America's for Apple in Its Latest Nod to Trump

Apple closes ranks around Donald Trump and follows in Google's footsteps

Apple, the American company, has renamed the Gulf of Mexico on its devices in the United States. From now on, it is called the Gulf of America. A modification that was carried out in the last few hours and is already visible on iPhones and other brand devices.

This is a new nod from a giant American company to Donald Trump. Apple joins Google in this regard. Specifically, Google Maps last Monday made the change in application of the executive order signed by President Donald Trump.

Both Google Maps and Apple Maps implemented the name change only on devices used within the United States. In the rest of the world, both platforms continue to show the two versions of the name: "Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)".

Meanwhile, Microsoft's maps have also adopted the new name within U.S. territory.

The decision made by the Trump administration has already caused consequences. On Tuesday, the White House barred the Associated Press agency from accessing the Oval Office. All due to its refusal to comply with the executive order and continue using the traditional name of Gulf of Mexico.

"As a global news agency, AP has the responsibility to ensure that geographic names are understandable to all audiences," the agency stated in a release.

On Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt defended the measure taken against AP during her daily briefing. "It is a fact that the body of water located off the coast of Louisiana is called the Gulf of America, and I don't understand why some media resist calling it that. Things are what they are," she stated.

Google's Blow to the 'Progressives': Removes Pride Month from Its Calendar

Google has decided to remove various cultural commemorations, such as Pride Month, from its Google Calendar application. Also, Black History Month and Women's History Month. The company argues that this measure, implemented in a recent update, seeks to simplify event management on the platform and make it more efficient.

A company spokesperson explained to the media PinkNews that, in recent years, Google had been manually adding a wide range of celebrations and commemorations in different countries. However, due to the difficulty of maintaining a balance in the representation of all cultural events globally, the system became unsustainable.

The Tremendous Turn of Google

Starting in mid-2024, Google Calendar will only show in its programming the holidays and national celebrations collected through the portal timeanddate.com. However, users will still have the option to manually add those events they consider important.

Google Takes a Step Back in Its Woke Policies

The removal of these events from the calendar is not the only measure that has caused controversy. The company also announced that it will end its hiring goals for minority personnel. Thus joining a growing trend in the corporate world.

Tech giants like Amazon and Meta have made similar decisions, setting aside initiatives that sought to impose the woke ideology in their work teams.

This wave of changes in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies comes in a political context marked by strong opposition to these initiatives, especially in the United States. President Donald Trump has openly criticized these strategies, calling them "unnecessary and costly."

Additionally, one of his recent measures included the order to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America. An adjustment that Google Maps has implemented, although it is only visible in the U.S., according to the BBC.
