Castellón Establishes Itself as an International Capital of Athletics with the Marató bp

The mayor of Castellón, Begoña Carrasco, has highlighted the success of the XV Marató bp Castelló and the 10K FACSA Castelló

The Mayor of Castellón, Begoña Carrasco, has highlighted the success of the XV Marató bp Castelló and the 10K FACSA Castelló, which have brought together more than 4,000 runners from 48 countries. "This weekend, Castellón has become the international capital of athletics," she stated.

The event featured prominent athletes such as Martín Fiz, Yomif Kejelcha, and Mathew Kibiwott. In the Marathon, the men's podium was led by Wesley Ledama, followed by Musie Estifanos and Julius Kipkoech. In the women's category, Kenyan Pasacline Jelagat achieved victory, with Pauline Mutwa and Emmaculate Chepkirui completing the podium.

In the regional and local classification, the winners were Fernando Ruiz and Inma March. In the 10K FACSA Castelló, Yomif Kejelcha achieved the world's best mark, followed by Kuma Girma Mamo and Brian Kibor. In the women's category, Medina Eisa was the winner, with Likina Amebaw and Aynaddis Mebratu in second and third place.

Carrasco highlighted the importance of the "Active Running Cities" distinction, awarded by the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation, which recognizes Castellón as an ideal city for running. "This recognition endorses the City Council's commitment to sports and a healthy lifestyle," she declared.

Besides the sporting impact, the mayor emphasized the economic benefit caused by the event, boosting hotel occupancy, commerce, and hospitality. "Sports and tourism go hand in hand, helping to energize the city throughout the year," she noted.

To ensure safety and mobility, the City Council deployed a team of 256 personnel, including Local Police, Mobility Agents, and organizational staff. Alternative routes for buses and TRAM were also enabled, ensuring traffic flow.

Carrasco concluded by reaffirming the City Council's commitment to sports with a calendar of more than 200 annual events in the city.
