Carrasco supports the fight against childhood cancer with Vega as a symbol of hope

The event has included the participation of families, teachers, and charitable runners.

The mayor of Castellón, Begoña Carrasco, along with the Councilor for Social Welfare, Maica Hurtado, has participated in the charity race #LaVueltaAlCole, an initiative to raise funds for childhood cancer research.

The event was organized by the Association of Families of Students of the CEIP Juan G. Ripollés school, with the collaboration of the platform "Tú donas, yo vivo," the Castellón City Council, and the Club d’Atletisme Running Castelló.

Carrasco highlighted the City Council's commitment to this cause and emphasized the importance of awareness about bone marrow, blood, and umbilical cord donation. "Every small gesture counts. Donation can save lives and give hope to many families," the mayor stated.

The charity race began at 5:00 PM in Plaza de Elche. With a 500-meter (1640 feet) route, it ended in the Escoleta park. More than 250 people participated, showing their support for the children fighting this disease.

This first edition had a very special meaning. It was held on January 30 because on this date, eight years ago, Vega, a girl from Castellón, received a bone marrow transplant that allowed her to overcome leukemia. Since then, every year she commemorates her "life anniversary," a day of hope and gratitude.

The event featured the participation of families, teachers, and charity runners, who wanted to highlight the importance of continuing research to find better treatments for childhood cancer.

The mayor thanked all the people involved in the organization and encouraged the public to continue supporting these types of initiatives. "Unity is strength. Together we can keep fighting so that no child has to face this disease alone," she concluded.
