The accident occurred when one of the buses rear-ended the other, causing the impacted vehicle to mount the sidewalk.
A serious accident occurred this Monday afternoon on Avenida Diagonal in Barcelona. Two buses collided at number 361, at the intersection with Roger de Llúria and Rosselló streets.
The impact left more than 30 people injured, two of them in critical condition. This mobilized numerous emergency personnel to address the situation.
The accident happened when one of the buses rear-ended the other, causing the impacted vehicle to mount the sidewalk and knock down a tree.
Although the causes of the crash are still being investigated, the violence of the impact left several passengers trapped inside the vehicles. This complicated the rescue efforts. The companies involved in the accident are Julià and Canals, responsible for the buses involved.

The first to arrive at the scene of the accident were agents of the Barcelona Urban Guard. They quickly cordoned off the area and began managing the traffic, which was severely affected.
Subsequently, teams from the Medical Emergency System (SEM) arrived, sending 19 units to the scene to attend to the injured. The injured were transported to various hospitals in the city, some in serious condition and others with minor injuries.
In addition to the Urban Guard and SEM personnel, the Barcelona Fire Department also arrived at the scene of the accident, sending ten units to assist in rescue efforts and control possible fires. The intervention of the firefighters was crucial in freeing some people trapped inside the vehicles.

As a result of the accident, Civil Protection of the Generalitat activated the Procicat emergency plan alert, given that the magnitude of the accident created a risk situation.
Although there were no fatalities, the accident caused a significant disruption in traffic on Avenida Diagonal and adjacent streets. This led to major congestion and delays in public transportation. Drivers were advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes while the situation was solved.
Avenida Diagonal is one of the main arteries of Barcelona, where traffic is very dense during peak hours. This incident has reopened the debate on road safety in areas with high traffic density, where collisions between heavy vehicles, such as buses, can have serious consequences.
