The magistrate has even become a meme, and social media is making his reprimands go viral.

Judge José Manuel Clemente has become one of the key figures during the statements regarding Rubiales's kiss to Jenni Hermoso.

The magistrate has gone viral for his reprimands to the witnesses and the prosecution. Even today, he stated he was "exhausted" and ended today's session.

However, the magistrate also had a more media-focused moment in this trial for the Rubiales case. While trying to redirect the questioning, he exclaimed, "Enough! With clarity, not with arrogance" to the former communications director of the RFEF. He also instructed Luis de la Fuente as follows: "He comes to answer what he is asked."

Undoubtedly, his actions have circulated on social media almost as much as the witnesses' statements. The truth is that the trial continues to leave controversies and disputes unsolved.

However, Judge José Manuel Clemente has become one of the names in this high-profile trial. Therefore, many are wondering who this magistrate is.

José Manuel Clemente Fernández-Prieto has been the presiding judge of the Central Criminal Court of the National Court since 2019. At 70 years old, Clemente assumed the position in 2019. This is recorded in the Official State Gazette (BOE) following the retirement of Magistrate José María Vázquez.

Despite his age, the magistrate will remain at the forefront of the judicial career thanks to an extension granted in June of this year. This allows him to serve until the age of 72, that is, until 2027.

Judge Clemente has 40 years of experience in the judicial career. He has also been an associate professor at the Universities of Alcalá de Henares, San Pablo CEU, Francisco de Vitoria, and Autónoma de Madrid.

The truth is that this judge has been involved in major and important trials, such as the Banco de Valencia case.

He also acquitted an Indian citizen who, shortly before taking off on a flight to the Balearic Islands, wrote a message. In it, he jokingly told his friends he was a jihadist and would blow up the plane. That message was intercepted by the Spanish authorities.

Another well-known trial ended with a tweeter being fined 720 euros for insulting the King on social media, a controversial sentence at the time.

The Prosecutor in the Rubiales Case Is Very Close to Attorney General García Ortiz

The Deputy Prosecutor of the National Court's Prosecutor's Office, Marta Durántez Gil, was appointed in 2022. She took office in a ceremony presided over by the State Attorney General, Álvaro García Ortiz. It was held at the National Court.

In García Ortiz's speech, he highlighted that Marta Durántez is an exceptional and versatile jurist and a magnificent colleague. He noted that she demonstrated her deep conviction in the principles of citizen-centered justice and public service. He indicated that she was committed to defending human rights and victims.

The truth is that the rapport between García Ortiz and Marta Durántez, the candidate, has been undeniable. Both come from Galicia. While García held the Area Prosecutor's Office of Santiago de Compostela, Durántez was a prosecutor at the Provincial Prosecutor's Office of Pontevedra for 18 years.

She left that position in 2020 when Dolores Delgado was promoted to head the Public Ministry. This happened after García became the head of the Technical Secretariat and recruited her for this department.

The truth is that the Castilian-Leonese landed in Pontevedra, where she served from 2002 to 2020. First in Vilagarcía and later as Coordinating Prosecutor and Delegate Prosecutor for Occupational Accidents. She was also an attached prosecutor to the Gender Violence section in the Pontevedra Provincial Prosecutor's Office.
