Hundreds of Castellonenses celebrate the feast of San Antonio Abad with their pets

Castellón experienced one of its most traditional and popular festivities: the procession of San Antonio Abad, patron saint of animals. The celebration included the participation of hundreds of residents, led by Mayor Begoña Carrasco, along with the Councilor of Festivities, Noelia Selma; the Councilor of Neighborhoods, Paco Cabañero; the Councilor of Security, Antonio Ortolá; and the Queens of the Festivities, Paula Torres and Carla Ibáñez, joined by the Dames of the City.

The procession began at 11:00 in the morning in front of the La Plana Institute, passing through several emblematic streets of the city, such as Santa María Rosa Molas, Lledó Avenue, and María Agustina Square, to culminate again at the starting point. During the route, participants joined by their pets could enjoy the blessing of the animals, as well as the traditional distribution of rolls and commemorative ribbons.

The mayor highlighted the great citizen participation, stating: “Today Castellonenses have taken to the streets to celebrate one of the most deeply rooted festivities in our city. I appreciate the work of the Festivities Board and the Festivities Patronage, as well as the neighborhood associations, for keeping our traditions alive.”

The festivity also resonated in the maritime district. In Grao, the celebration of Sant Antoni brought together more than a thousand people in a day marked by the popular torrà, the blessing of the animals, and the distribution of the traditional “coquetes.” The Deputy Mayor of Grao, Ester Giner, highlighted the involvement of the residents in this celebration, especially during the torrà dinner, which closed the event with a festive atmosphere.

Castellón reaffirms with this massive festivity its commitment to traditions and cultural legacy, strengthening the bond between citizens and their roots.
