Alicante Film Festival Celebrates 8m With a Cycle Dedicated to Women
The Councilor for Social Welfare and Public Rights, Begoña León, has emphasized that this initiative 'highlights the role of women from different perspectives.'
The Alicante International Film Festival, in collaboration with the Department of Public Rights of the Alicante City Council and the Official School of Languages (EOI), will commemorate International Women's Day with the new edition of the Women in Film series. The program, which will be held from March 3 to 6, will offer free screenings of five feature films in the original version with subtitles, directed and starred by women, with a gender perspective.
The Councilor for Social Welfare and Public Rights, Begoña León, has highlighted that this initiative "values the role of women from different perspectives through culture, with iconic titles that have garnered excellent reviews." León has emphasized that the series is part of the commemorative activities of March 8, with the aim of making the fight for equality visible through cinematic narrative.
The director of the Alicante International Film Festival, Vicente Seva, has pointed out that the series reflects "similar circumstances faced by women in different cultures and places, claiming their role in society in an entertaining and educational way, as well as promoting language learning." Meanwhile, Antonio Cánovas, director of the EOI, has highlighted that the initiative "allows integrating the languages taught at the school with women as a cross-cutting theme."
The program will begin on Monday, March 3, with Full Time (France); continue on Tuesday, March 4, with Lullaby (Spain) and We Still Have Tomorrow (Italy); on Wednesday, March 5, The Conductor (Netherlands) will be screened; and it will conclude on Thursday, March 6, with L'àvia i el foraster (Valencia), winner of four awards at the latest edition of the Alicante festival. All sessions will be held at 6:00 p.m., except for the morning screening on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. Admission is free until full capacity is reached.
