Alicante City Council will reward social entities that promote equality

Will award the new Equality Awards in 2025

The Public Rights Council of Alicante City Hall, led by Begoña León, will award the new Equality Awards in 2025, aimed at recognizing social entities that stand out for promoting equality in the municipality. During the Local Equality Council, León emphasized that these awards aim to "recognize and encourage the work of those who strive to build a more equitable society."

The 2025 program of the Equality department introduces a schedule of activities organized by thematic months. In January, the programming focuses on awareness of equality and diversity, while February will address equality in sports with workshops and mixed tournaments. March will be Women's Month, with events like Women's Week and the Women Entrepreneurs Fair. April will be dedicated to prevention in schools, May to the workplace, and June to LGBTQIA+ Pride.

The summer will include activities to promote family equality and inclusive tourism. In fall, September will address educational equality, October disability and accessibility, and November will focus on the fight against gender violence. Finally, December will be Human Rights Month and will mark the delivery of the Equality Awards.

Additionally, a review of the work done in 2024 has been conducted. The Gender Violence Victim Assistance Unit stood out with 95 diagnostic interviews, 272 therapeutic ones, and 122 follow-ups, among other services offered. The Violet Points were also managed at major events like Hogueras and Santa Faz, with a contract awarded for 67,705 euros to Filias Innovación Social S.L., extendable up to four years.

Begoña León reaffirmed the department's commitment to promoting equality and assisting victims, highlighting that "equality is not just a goal, but a transversal axis that must permeate all public policies."
