Alicante Celebrated a Carnival With 40,000 People on Sabado Ramblero
The city has overcome the inclement weather to carry out a successful Carnival celebration.
The city overcame the inclement weather to carry out a successful Carnival celebration, with around 40,000 people, according to estimates by the Local Police, who gathered at the Rambla de Méndez Núñez to enjoy the traditional Sábado Ramblero. Despite the intermittent rains that wet the ground during the day, the people of Alicante filled the streets to experience the double celebration, first for children in the afternoon and then for adults at night, which took place without major incidents.
Although the less favorable weather reduced the number of attendees compared to other editions, the celebration continued normally. The festivities began at 5:00 p.m. with activities for the little ones, including workshops and a photo-call. At 10:00 p.m., the atmosphere transformed to welcome the adult party, which lasted until the early hours of the morning. Music, both from DJs and an orchestra, was present on two stages located at the upper part of the Rambla, near the Banco de España, and in front of the Portal de Elche, enlivening the evening.
Although the rain persisted until the afternoon, the precipitation ceased at the crucial moment, allowing costumes to fill the streets. Security was ensured with 92 Local Police officers, supported by Civil Protection and Red Cross volunteers. Medical personnel attended to eight minor cases, while the Local Police issued 140 citations for alcohol consumption in public and 36 for urinating in the street. Additionally, 102 liters (27 gal.) of alcohol were confiscated and two evictions were carried out in the Volvo area.
The security operation also prevented access to areas such as Playa del Postiguet and Parque de Canalejas to avoid problems related to alcohol consumption. The Carnival, despite the adversities, was consolidated as a safe celebration without major setbacks.
